THE Lilac House was built in 1890 by the Early's, one of Mackinac Island's original founding families. Almost 50 years ago Mary Gillespie Thompson returned to her Island home and purchased the house where she raised her family. In 1991, with her kids all grown and husband Charlie retired, they fulfilled Mary's long held dream and converted their home into the Lilac House Bed and Breakfast. Today, Mary's son Ken and his wife LoriAnn continue the Lilac House Bed and Breakfast tradition.
ESPECIALLY noteworthy is the Lilac House has been voted Michigan's "Coziest Bed and Breakfast" by readers of the Detriot News. But what means the most to us is that almost two-thirds of all Lilac House guests are repeats. Over the years our guests have become more like friends and family; coming first to visit with my parents and now my wife and I. We sincerely hope you too will choose to come visit with us and make Mackinac Island and the Lilac House a part of your life.
WE offer an extensive contintental breakfast from 7 to 10 or so each morning and make much of it available throughout the day for the convienence of our guests.
THE Lilac House is a historically-registered site and is family-owned and operated.
